What Is a Meta Description?

A meta description is a concise summary (ideally under 160 characters) of what visitors can expect on that page. Search engines display it beneath your page title in results, and a persuasive description can boost click-through rates.

Best Practices for Meta Descriptions

  • Keep it under 160 characters. Google may truncate longer snippets.

  • Front‑load your focus keyword. If your page is about “custom sneakers,” lead with that phrase.

  • Describe the benefit. Tell users what problem you solve or what value you deliver (“Shop custom sneakers handcrafted for comfort and style.”)

  • Write for humans first. Avoid keyword stuffing; aim for clear, engaging language.

  • Use a call to action. Simple verbs like “Discover,” “Learn,” or “Shop” encourage clicks.

What Are Meta Tags?

Meta tags (a comma‑separated list of keywords) used to carry less weight than they once did, but they still help signal topical relevance to search engines and internal site tools.

Best Practices for Meta Tags

  • Include a mix of broad and long‑tail keywords. (“custom sneakers,” “vegan leather high‑top sneakers”)

  • Limit to 5–10 tags. Too many can dilute focus.

  • Use natural phrasing. Think what terms your audience would search.

  • Avoid duplicate tags across pages. Keep each page’s tags unique and relevant.

Why Foundational SEO Matters

Meta descriptions and tags lay the groundwork for sustainable organic growth. While factors like site speed, readability, content usefulness, and backlinks are also critical, clear and accurate meta data makes sure you’re giving both users and search engines the right first impression. Blue Raven’s Main Meta tool helps you keep track of every page—no more guessing which pages still need attention.

Note: Blue Raven focuses on real, scalable growth. Quick‑fix schemes like buying backlinks can backfire, leading to spammy links and algorithm penalties.
